'Egg'tastic Printmaking

This was my lesson about printmaking and to get them started we went on an Egg hunt around the classroom. We talked about warm and cool colors then had the students find a partner by match their eggs to the opposite colors. We had the students draw eggs on a piece of paper and then had them trace it on apiece of Styrofoam. They then used foam as a stamp, which they rolled on the color of their eggs paint. Then they laid a piece of construction paper over the paint and pressed down. When we took the paper off you could see the design. The students cut out their two eggs and glued them to a piece of construction paper labeling with the print edition. They could decorate the back ground how every they want and finally they put on their note cards.
For an extension activity,
Was geometric shapes were the students had a slip inside their eggs. They had to incorporate that shape in their pattern of the eggs. The shape I incorporated was a heart. The students then had to write a paragraph about their prints such as what shape, their colors and their partners. The students could even tell a story of the egg hunt we went on.

Silhouette Lesson

For this lesson we worked on silhouettes. We started by asking our partners different questions about them selves such as favorite food, where they were born, and how many siblings they have etc. This was to get us thinking about what we were going to place inside our silhouette. Then we started to cut out pictures and words from magazines that related to us and things we like. We took turns going up to the board and tracing our partner’s silhouettes onto the construction paper. We then cut our silhouettes out and glued them to another piece of paper. We took the magazine pictures and glued them on our faces and wrote five words that describe us around the silhouette.
Extension Activity,
The students could write why choose each picture to represent them. They need to make it as personal as they can. It would be a introduction activity for the beginning of the year. We would present them to the class and we would display them in the room.

Nighttime Wonders

In this Activity we learned about Vincent VanGough’s Starry Night painting. They asked us to close our eyes and envision a place at night the sounds what you might see. I imagined a river funning through a forest with mountains in the background. Then we had to draw our scene we imagined. We created our scratchboards by coloring the entire piece of paper with different colors then painting over it with black tempura paint and dish soap. Then we took the landscape and colored on the back with white chalk and laid it on top of the scratchboard and traced the scene. The chalk made an outline on the scratchboard then we scratched out the landscape.
Extension Activity:
This could be a fun way to do our vocabulary words for what ever subject. The students could have the words on the scratchboard then the definition on the back of the cards.
