Aztec Sundial

For this lesson, we learned about Aztec art and created our own sundials. First, we learned about sundials and how the Aztecs used them. Next, we drew four symbols on scratch paper that represented important things in our lives. We then chose one symbol as the focal point of our sundial. After decorating the plate we found the four main times on a clock and labeled them. We stuck a pencil in the center of the plate and tried out our sundials. The shadow of the pencil is how we could tell what time it is.
Extension Activity,
We could go more in-depth with the cultures of the Aztecs. Having the students present the information they find by drawing it on the sundial. So they could have a visual representation of their information.
